The Economic and financial crime commission has been lashed out by Nigerians after embarking on “stop” and “search” operations around Lekki Axis.
According to reports on social media, the EFCC officials were spotted around Lekki Axis and Ikoyi searching commuters specially private car owners plying the road.

Nigerians while reacting to this unprofessional act, see this as the least expected from a prestigious law enforcement agency, whose responsibility is to secretly investigate issues relating to financial crimes, as failure to stick to this objective, generated into hilarious comments from social media seen as a backlash.

However, the EFCC has come out with a press statement, debunking the accusation as claimed, asserting that EFCC operatives cannot be involved in such operations, urging the members of the public to ignore such insinuations.
The statement signed by the EFCC media and Publicity personnel reads;
EFCC Not Involved In “Stop And Search” Operations
The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission( EFCC) has been drawn to some spurious news circulating in the social media, linking its Operatives with some contrived ” Stop and Search” operations around Lekki axis of Lagos State.
We wish to state very clearly that our Operatives were not and can never be involved in such operations.
Members of the public are enjoined to ignore such insinuations. EFCC is a professional law- enforcement agency and should not be linked with any traffic management operation on our roads.
