Raising concern over the Nigerian youths sexual behavior, The Arewa Youth Consultative Council (AYCC) has asked the Federal Government to block ‘sexual and immorally-related’ websites from the Nigerian cyberspace.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the spokesperson, Muhammad Ibrahim, on Friday, 14th of August, who said they are concerned over the high rate of sexual exposure and vulnerability among the youths.
According to the group, the exposure of the youths to sexual content has brought about moral and cultural decadence which if not curtail, can deteriorate our value system.
“We resolved to write to you as concerned citizens to call on your quick intervention in blocking sexual and immorally-related sites in the Nigerian cyberspace to sanitise the reckless behaviour and continuous immoral engagements among youths for sustainable development and progress of our societies,” the statement reads.
AYCC also pleaded with the government to force service provider to protect Nigerians from any violence or terrorism related content, which will help to curb further damage.
The group added that individuals or companies that refuse to comply with the censor should be fined millions and billions of naira, respectively.
GGB gathered that, this request was first forwarded to Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and later to the Ministry of Information and Culture, headed by Lai Mohammed on the Friday, 14th, August, where it was obtained by our reporter.
Feedback from the federal government relating to this letter sent by the Arewa Youth Consultative Council(AYCC) is yet to be received as our reporter following-up this issue is “at alert” to giving us feedback as soon as it unfolds.
