Sen. Shehu Sani, a former senator of Kaduna central has blown hot on Federal government through his media handle to condemning the the killings and the high rate of insurgency in the Northern region of Nigeria and the unequivocal imposition of the hate speech act on citizens.
The human right activist has raised an alarm over the killings of Bauchi lawmaker Hon. Musa Mante and the abduction of his wives, describing the situation as “tragic” adding that the number of victims of insecurity has risen to the stratum.
Sani, the ex-law maker further maintained that the NBC shouldn’t be a tool for the restriction of freedom of speech as people have the right to criticize those they elected and hold them accountable, adding that “Maliafylia Obadiah shouldn’t be used as a distraction.”
He went on to urge all the Northern leaders especially the Northern Governors to come together in fighting the insurgency, “bloodshed and violence” which is presently “consuming and demonizing the region”.
Recall that the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission(NBC) has on Thursday, 13th of August fined Nigeria Info, a radio station in Lagos State five million naira (N5m), for the violation of hate speech act by allowing its radio to be used as a medium of promoting unconfirmed sensitive information that could incite the public and there by resulting into chaos between the citizens and government.
The former CBN Deputy Governor, Obadiah Mailafiya, was few days ago featured in a program in Nigeria Info radio station where he publicly said that a Northern Governor is currently the commander of Boko-Haram terrorist group terrorising the country. This state by the ex-deputy CBN Governor has since then raised a lot of issues within the country as reactions trails the air from both well meaning individuals and different organizations.
