The federal government has on Friday during a briefing decided to replace plastic identification number to digital format.
This was made known by the Minister of Interiors Mr. Rauf Aregbesola while briefing the state house on the latest development.
According to the Minister, the reason behind this development is for easy and quick access,
“The card is just for convenience, the real thing is the number you have; with that number, you are on the data bank, everything about you is there.”
“We are just upgrading it such that, your DNA too will be there very soon. Even if you are in a car, I will know if you are the one in the car through your DNA. It’s already captured. You are already captured, you cannot run away anymore,” he added.
Buttressing further, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy of Nigeria, Isa Patami, stated that the world had gone digital and stopped focusing on the production of cards.
“What the chairman (Aregbesola) is saying now is that we are no more talking about plastic cards, the whole world has gone digital, so that plastic card is no more”, he said.
The Minister concluded by adding that the digital process will be domiciled in the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
