Babatunde Oke, the chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State has on Wednesday, 12th of August died of Covid19 complications.
According to reports, Oke died on Wednesday at St. Nicholas Hospital located in Lagos island after combating with the dreaded virus ( covid19), the local government Council chairman late Babatunde Oke died of complications emanated from Corona virus.
Oke’s chief secretary, confirmed his death but couldn’t give further details.
Gbosgist gathered that he was a staunch member of All progressive Congress(APC) who was serving his second term before his demise.
The Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu has however, expressed sadness over the death of late chairman through his condolence message obtained by GGB reporters.
Gov. Sanwolu appealed to Lagosians, to use the death of the council chairman as a reminder that all hands must be on deck in reducing the spread of the ravaging coronavirus pandemic, as well as obeying basic rules and regulations issued by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO) directives on reducing the spread of Covid19.
The Lagos State Governor said;
“The death of Hon. Babatunde Oke is a painful and great loss to the State. We must however not allow the death of Hon. Oke to deter us from forging ahead in our quest to finding a lasting solution to the dreaded coronavirus which is ravaging the world. In fact the best way we would preserve the memories of those we have lost to the virus is for the world to find a solution to the pandemic”
Expressing his emotion towards the sad news, the Governor said “I am saddened by the death of this fine gentleman; a loyal party man and committed democrat, who had a deep understanding of local government administration and the political landscape” adding that “Hon. Oke was an extremely loyal politician and an invaluable asset to the All Progressives Congress (APC)”
“He started his political journey with the progressives and remained in the fold until his unfortunate exit today. There is no doubt in the fact that he would be missed by the entire political class, particularly Onigbongbo LCDA, Lagos APC family and the State as a whole.” he further stated.
The governor, went on to condole with the family, praying that God will grant “the soul of our beloved Hon. Babatunde Oke an eternal rest and comfort the immediate and political family of the deceased.”
As at the time of filing this report, means or source through which the Late LCDA Chairman contracted this deadly virus is yet to be identified.
Recall that Lagos State has topped the list of states with the highest number of covid19 cases from the NCDC daily report.
