Just In: Controversies Rock Over Execution of Projects for 6 New Federal Colleges of Education in States Amidst Covid-19

The Presidency issues a letter to benefiting state Governors at the early hours of Monday, informing them on the commencement of the new Federal Colleges of Education project in their respective states.

Despite the numbers of educational institutions currently established in all 36 states within the country, President Muhammadu Buhari has yet again taken further step toward the establishment of colleges of education in 6 geopolitical zones across states.

In a letter sent to Governors of the following states ; Osun State(South-West), Benue State(North-Central), Bauchi State(North-East), Ebonyi (South East), Edo (South-South) and Sokoto (North-West) Zone from Federal Ministry of Education through the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Sonny Echono, reveals that technical team from the ministry and that of Commission from Colleges of Education has commenced states visitation for review and location inspection.

Pres. Muhammadu Buhari Approves Execution of 6 Federal Colleges of Education in 6 States

Iwo in Iwo local government area of Osun State, Jama’are in Jama’are local government area of Bauchi State among other locations from the benefiting states have been chosen for the execution of this project.

As traditional rulers, indigenes and some members of the public applaud Pres. Muhammadu Buhari for the approval of this project looking toward the benefit they would bring to the host communities and the country at large, others blast the government over the following reasons as feedback from GGB reporters;

(1) A tweetarian said it is a misplacement of priority toward channeling of funds to projects that are less important instead of channeling it to fighting the covid-19 pandemic ravaging the country.

(2) Some are of the opinion that instead of setting up colleges of education whose degree (NCE) is currently not relevant in seeking for employment within the country, why can’t the government establish universities or polytechnics whose degrees are more acceptable and respected?

(3) One Mr. Lukman Lawal asked “Why can’t government create technical colleges/institutes of science and technology that deal more on research and development?”

(4) Tobi Gideon giving his opinion in a vioce-pop asked “those funds government wants to use in funding these new projects, why can’t those same fund be used to rehabilitate the federal universities and polytechnics that are in the stage of collapsing due to poor facilities, infrastructure, funding and mismanagement and also use it to cure ASUU related issues?”

These among many related issues are some of the controversial thoughts surrounding the approval and execution of the new Federal Colleges of Education approved in the 6 geopolitical zones of the country.
